Interesting prediction by Jean-Louis Gassée! I like to see it happen too.

However, there is one problem with Jean-Louis Gassée’s prediction: Microsoft’s own execution of a potential transition to ARM.

As I wrote here, Microsoft has a serious QA problem with Windows 10 right now. Windows 10 is a mess, with increasingly number of bugs, outages, defects, problems and issues. With each update, Windows 10 becomes more and more broken, enraging more and more users on the way.

They have their hands full trying not to break Windows 10 into an even worse shape. I can’t imagine them trying to transition their entire user-base of Windows 10 to ARM at the same time. They probably tried tentatively with Windows RT but gave up.

It’s an ideal goal for Microsoft to transition to ARM, but I doubt they can execute it without shattering an already-broken Windows 10!
